Qatar Foundation for Social Work organized, in cooperation with the United Nations Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, a virtual workshop titled: “Preparation and Writing of Reports in the Field of the Rights of Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities.” This initiative comes within the framework of strengthening international cooperation and developing national capacities in the field of human rights.
The workshop was held as part of joint efforts to support and empower key stakeholders, including civil society organizations, to fulfill their obligations related to the preparation and submission of reports to international treaty bodies, thereby contributing to the تعزيز protection of human rights for priority groups in society. It also targeted employees of the Foundation and its affiliated centers, aiming to enhance their professional competencies and develop their capabilities in this vital field.
The workshop focused on building participants’ skills in data collection and analysis, the use of human rights indicators, and the preparation of reports in accordance with internationally recognized standards. This approach ensures an accurate reflection of reality and supports informed decision-making and the improvement of related policies. It also addressed the role of civil society organizations in preparing shadow reports and engaging with UN mechanisms, thereby strengthening their active participation in the human rights system.
The workshop brought together a number of legal experts and members of the International Relations Committee. The program included both theoretical and practical sessions covering reporting guidelines, mechanisms for following up on recommendations, and professional engagement with international treaty bodies.
In this context, Ms. Ghada Khalifa Al Subaie, Director of Advocacy and International Relations at Qatar Foundation for Social Work, emphasized that organizing this workshop reflects the Foundation’s commitment to enhancing the competencies of national cadres in the field of international reporting. She noted that: “Developing the capacities of relevant entities in this area represents a fundamental pillar in supporting national efforts to advance the rights of women, children, and persons with disabilities, and to ensure the accurate and comprehensive representation of the status of these rights in the State of Qatar. This, in turn, reflects the progress achieved and strengthens opportunities for continuous development.”
She added that the partnership with the United Nations Training and Documentation Centre represents a model of integration between national and international efforts, contributing to the establishment of a participatory approach that enhances the quality of outputs and aligns with global best practices in the field of human rights.
The workshop concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continuing capacity-building efforts and expanding cooperation with various partners, in a manner that supports the achievement of national human rights objectives and enhances the role of civil society in this domain.
